Way back in the day when Mill Mountain Coffee & Tea was on the opposite side of Campbell Avenue, I was a barista there and then the manager. I remember a couple opening a bakery across the street with European breads and then they moved their shop where the On the Rise Bakery is now. It may be the same business with different owners, I don't know.
I created a list of Summer Joys for this summer and one of them is good food. Casi and I decided to go exploring downtown Roanoke. We both love downtown - the people, the art, the history. Lunch was at One the Rise Bakery. Casi loves the tomato and cheese pizza.
On the Rise bread is the best in Roanoke! If you like European style bread, stop by and grab a loaf to take home and you will agree with me.
They have cold and hot sandwiches too and desserts. I chose the turkey and provolone sandwich warmed. Mmmm! You can't go wrong with On the Rise.
